She is a community-based program evaluator by training, and has worked closely with decision makers to use research evidence in the real world for over a decade. Her research interests include broad-based promotion of well-being and success among at-risk children via community-based programs and public policy. During her graduate training, she devoted five years to serving as a Research Assistant for the Community Research and Evaluation Team at UNCC, supporting local evaluations of child-serving systems including mental health, child welfare, public housing, and education. In 2015, she began working with Dr. Max Crowley and they launched the Research-to-Policy Collaboration via the support of the National Prevention Science Coalition. Since then, the work has grown at Penn State to evaluate this replicable, theory-based model. In this capacity, she has consulted on myriad activities that bridge research and policy, supported congressional briefings and policy papers, authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, and launched a policy training program that she currently directs. Her work has been supported by the William T. Grant Foundation, National Science Foundation, NICHD, NIDA, numerous philanthropies, and the Social Science Research Institution at Penn State.
